Calling Crows
Will be headin to Harlan in a few days to do some more predator calling and I always like to go for crows once I have finished calling for coyotes. Crows are an absolute blast. The shooting can be fast, often and always fun! I like to set out 2-5 crow decoys around an owl decoy (always have the crows above the owl if hanging decoys) and then sit back in the brush in full camo and start calling.
Probably the single biggest reason some have not found success in crow calling is they underestimate how intelligent this bird really it. Generally, a single bird may come in to investigate. This is the Sentinel. Let him go and more will come. I start with medium volume to call in close crows for some quick shooting and then louder for crows from longer distances. Start too loud and you will have them all come at once, blowing the rest of the stand. Take your favorite upland bird or waterfowl gun with mod choke and # 6 shot and you are ready for some incredible action. Be safe and enjoy the show.
Get em…out there!

Aren’t crows out of season except in Buffalo, Phelps, Harlan, Franklin, Kearney, Dawson, and Lincoln counties?
Bill
You are correct. Hunters need to be aware of their locations. Statewide does not open until January 20. Thanks for clarifying.
