CLfT 2009 - Success - Game Recovery

…Jeff & I will be spending the rest of the week & weekend in Tipton, KS, taking part in the Wildlife Management Institute’s “Conservation Leaders for Tomorrow” (CLfT) collegiate workshop…this program is addressing a need and concern of many Wildlife Agencies around the Nation - simply stated, a majority of the individuals coming out of Natural Resource colleges nowadays have never hunted, know little about it and do not understand the reasons people hunt…according to the Wildlife Management Institute, many of these will be the next generation of Conservation Leaders – making decisions about hunting based solely on what they have heard or read…

…CLfT is addressing this situation though its intensive 3-day workshops that partners with wildlife professionals and universities…these events are only open to natural resource upper-classmen and grad students that have never held a hunting permit…roundtable discussions and field exercises expose students to the biological basis and traditions of hunting while also teaching shooting skills and safety…at each workshop students are given the opportunity to take part in a hunt, alongside a qualified mentor…it should be noted – as it is made very clear to all participants – CLfT is not (and never will be) meant to recruit hunters, but is all about gaining the necessary knowledge on hunting to make better and more informed decisions about the activity during their professional careers…
