The Professional Goose Hunters

July 9, 2010 Lock, Stock and Bedlam No Comments

I had the opportunity a few days ago to help Dr. Scott Hygnstrom of the UNL Natural Resources College with an animal damage control workshop for professional goose damage control specialists.  These are the folks helping to relieve goose pressure on golf courses, air ports, back yards, etc.  We hosted a shooting workshop where they learned how to use shotguns for goose removal, net cannons, net guns, and other lethal control means.

The workshop was a blast and I am confident the students learned a great deal.  They all learned how difficult a moving target can be (left to right shots are tough).  They also learned about the ballistics of various shotgun loads.   I think they were all really impressed with the Goose Cannon (Net Blaster) that fired a 40×40′ net over a flock of geese.  I am thrilled to see UNL’s Cooperative Extension is providing educational programming for these professionals as it has been needed.  Way to go Scott!
