The Lever Action Rifle
Many have tried as hard as they could to head out to the field with the biggest magnum bolt gun they can afford and that is okay provided you can hit with it. In keeping with the idea of keeping all my rounds in the magical 9″ pie plate (not the mythical broad side of the barn which is hard to miss) I think many hunters find that it really does not take much to anchor a big whitetail provided they hit it in the proper location (heart/lung area).
The adventures of Rawly and Dave (my brother-in-law) continued this past weekend at his farm which we term seasonally as “deer camp.” We noticed considerably less deer than past years but had a great time none-the-less. Of the four hunters at camp, all were using either lever action rifles and revolvers. For opening weekend we harvested a doe and a nice 4×4 that I rattled in on opening morning. The old 35 Remington cartridge is as good a deer round today as it ever was. A good lever action rifle for most of Nebraska is just hard to beat! How many of you love the LEVER?

Jeff,
I have some questions on the lever gun. If you have a minute or two, I’d love to get your thoughts. Drop me a line at the e-mail above.
Thanks,
AF
Just send me an email at jeff.rawlinson@nebraska.gov and I would be happy to discuss lever action rifles with you all day!

I got a nice doe with my Marlin 44 Mag lever @ 75 yards. Next year I plan to buy scope for it. I usually shoot with a bow, but the lever action is a great gun to use.
The Marlin 44 mag is an awesome rifle. I just love how they feel in the hand when carried and boy howdy can they shoot! I bet, if your anything like me, you can’t wait until December for the remake of True Grit to debut!

I still have my great-grandfather’s Winchester 94 in .32 Winchester Special. It’s as good a deer rifle today as it was when he bought it way back in the 1930s.
Really genius idea, you’ve placed the cotton ball in your 35mm film canister. that was cool ^_^
