You Might Say I Have A Calling For Squirrel Hunting
I have commented before how much I enjoy chasing squirrels. Ounce for ounce one of the toughest challenges in the file IMHO! Chasing them with a good single action is a passion. I talk to many who say they have sat in the woods for an hour with no sighting of bushy tailed tree dwellers. Here is a new idea for some that is sure to bring squirrels into your lap…call them in.
Now I am not talking about the normal squirrel call (the one that says “squirrel call”) but rather, try using a predator call. The whining of a dying squirrel or rabbit will get the attention of the curious squirrel and often bring them running from the tree tops to your stand. Some will sneak in while others will come in with the gusto of Hulk Hogan. When they do, move slow and be ready. I carry a shooting stick so any shot opportunity presented I can make the best of. Keep the sound going and watch what happens. You’ll see more squirrels in a stand!
Don’t forget those little 22 lead launchers can reach 1.5 miles so pick shots carefully and avoid shooting up into trees without a certain backstop. Remember you are responsible for each shot fires so know your target and what lies beyond it.
