See any evidence of currents in this photo taken on a Nebraska reservoir last summer? Can you pick the spot where the fish were holding?

If you look close you can see a couple of clues in that photograph. For one the wind was blowing towards the photographer and kicking up a “mud line” where the waves/shoreline current swept around the point/corner on the left side of the picture.

Secondly, notice the “slick” along the right side of the picture. In addition to the wind-generated waves/current moving towards the photo-taker (i.e. me) there was a current from water coming into the reservoir moving from behind my right shoulder and away from me. Those two currents were running into each other and creating the “slick”.

Both the spot where the mud line intersected the shoreline and the slick where the two currents ran into each other were key feeding spots. When that particular picture was taken it was an “Africa-hot”, sunny afternoon, middle of the afternoon, but if a guy put a jig, jig-spinner or small crankbait in those “sweet spots” he would have a white bass or maybe even a bonus channel catfish or smallmouth!
