THINKING OF MORELS
The rain in Omaha today along with a reminder from my young Son Noah last night
has prompted me to firm up permission with my farmer friends and start checking my morel mushroom hunting spots this weekend along the banks of the Elkhorn River. I know it’s a bit early and it’s been dry out in the countryside, but we have moisture and I’ve got ‘morels on the brain!’ How about you?
You know, I’ve found small morels along the banks of the Elkhorn as early as now, but I realize that I’m probably a couple weeks ahead of schedule, or am I?
Listen to this. I discovered today that avid morel mushroom hunter LeRoy Paden of Horton, KS (his website is: www.morel.org) has harvested morels already in his state just 30 miles south of Falls City, NE! Hmmm … Better check my spots.
I know, I know, there are other spring matters that demand more immediate attention like preparing for the Nebraska youth shotgun wild turkey hunting season opener this weekend, then getting ready for our main shotgun opener next weekend of April 16th & 17th, not to mention fishing to boot. But, I can’t help but think of those succulent morels, how about you?
Smell ‘em cookin’?

Yes, i can smell them cooking, this time of the year it’s hard to get morels out of the mind, that’s for sure. Hurrah for spring!
