Yep, that’s the cover shot of it and copies are in! Hot off the press, the new 2011 Public Access Atlas for Hunting and Fishing in Nebraska is now available for pick up here at the Omaha Office of the Game and Parks Commission at 1212 Bob Gibson Blvd. Of course, the atlas is obtainable online at this link as well: http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/hunting/programs/crp/maps/atlas.pdf

Caroline Hinkelman in our Game and Parks Commission Wildlife Division provides this breakdown of numbers in the Open Fields and Waters Program for this year:

          Statewide Data

  • 644 Contracts, 192 new
  • 234, 089+ total acres in land and ponds with nearly 75,000 acres being new

          Regional Data (Southeast)

  • 223 Contracts, 71 new
  • 9,751 new acres, total of over 28, 500

The Open Fields and Waters Program through contracts with landowners, opens private land to public walk-in hunting and fishing access in Nebraska. Remember, when using any public access land always pack out your trash and leave the area better than you found it!
