Photo Day

August 18, 2011 Afield and Afloat No Comments

Today is photo day, which means that I am taking out the bad, leaving in the marginal, and briefly celebrating the good. During these times I always seem to find a photo that I had forgotten about. The photo below is this session’s lost image.

I was fishing at a lake in Otter Tail County, Minnesota, trying to catch northern pike and largemouth bass at a lake named Spitzer. However, I couldn’t stop from paying attention to this adult loon and its chick, and how I rooted for the young one to always find its way back on mom or dad’s back during its brief moments of unfettered swimming.

If shot in the Nebraska, this would be a photo I would submit as a possible NEBRASKAland calendar select – not because of the photo itself but of the thought that the photo conjures:

There is no telling what you might encounter while spending time in the outdoors, regardless of your location. Beautiful moments are always around you.
