WATCH FOOTBALL, THEN SCOUT FOR DOVES

August 26, 2011 In The Wild No Comments

Pssst … Shhh … I haven’t told my wife Polly this yet, but on our way back from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas tomorrow, after watching our son Micah play football for Concordia University, I’m gonna scout for doves on a few wildlife management areas. The dove hunting season opens in Nebraska on Thursday, September 1st, you know.

One stop I’ll make will be to the Twin Oaks Wildlife Management Area near Tecumseh, NE to check out the habitat conditions for doves, see what numbers are looking like and what’s flying around.

Here’s a link to our 2011 Nebraska Dove Hunting Fact Sheet (that I’ve read over) and that you need to read over before scouting: http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/hunting/guides/upland_game/Dove/pdf/2011%20Mourning%20Dove%20Hunting%20Fact%20Sheet%20v2.pdf

Enjoy your weekend everybody, and please, nobody contact my wife Polly! I’m gonna bill the dove scouting trip as a nice, quiet drive in the countryside just for the two of us (even though she’ll know that I’m up to somethin’).
