THE DEER EXCHANGE PROGRAM, IT’S AWESOME!
With it being late September, the October Antlerless Season fast approaching and tons of whitetail antlerless only deer hunting permits/tags out there this year, I figured it’s time to get in a plug for our online Deer Exchange Program. I’ve used it, it’s awesome!
What the program does is this: It simply puts deer hunters who will be harvesting a lot of venison this fall, and are willing to donate some, in touch with folks who would like to receive some. The donors and recipients register in an online database for their area on our Game and Parks website. There is no cost. The parties then may contact each other and work out details of the legal transfer. We designed the program to accommodate the tremendous amount of antlerless whitetail deer to be harvested here in Nebraska. I even found some recipients with a couple whitetail does I shot in the October Antlerless Season last year and may be looking at doing that same thing again this year!
Whether you have deer meat or are looking for a quantity of it, I hope you’ll at least check out this unique hunting-related program that puts the right sets of folks together. Here’s the link to our (your) Deer Exchange Program: http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/hunting/programs/deerexchange/
Enjoy!

I participate in Hunters Feeding the Hungry in Indiana. This is a good way to be able to hunt and without wasting any meat. My local processor will do the work for free and gives the meat to the local food bank. Both ways are good, hunters can take more deer to keep down the population and help others out at the same time.
