Nebraska High School State Fishing Championship Results
A couple of weeks ago I told you about he Nebraska High School State Fishing Championship that was held at Maranatha Lake east of North Platte, http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2011/08/nebraska-high-school-fishing-state-championship/ . That championship was held this past Saturday and I have some results and photos to share with you.
There were five teams that participated, all of the anglers were from the North Platte area. All teams caught bass, and the winning team weighed 5 fish for a total of 11 pounds, even. Weights for the second and third place teams were both over 8 pounds (3 fish weighed by the second place team and 4 fish weighed by the third place team). Big fish for each team was very near or larger than 2.5 pounds with the overall big bass being a fish just a little larger than 3.5 pounds.
The first place team was Adam Diehl/Drew Bailey, second place was Jarett Siefford/Tel Pyzer, and third place was Trevor Lee/Jacob Zimbelman. Nicely done guys! Adam and Drew qualify to go on to the regional tournament; I am sure they will represent well!
Let me show you some pictures; I believe I have pictures of each team on the water. Each team of two high school anglers had a boat operator to chauffeur them around.
You can see that the day was very cloudy with some wind and precipitation–low-light conditions in which some fish might be actively feeding. It sounds like buzzbaits and spinnerbaits were the best presentation.
Congratulations to all who participated! This is a great start for a program that I hope grows much bigger in the coming years. I would also like to say “Thank you” to all of those who helped, all of those who donated their time and equipment. A special thanks to Tony Munter for his efforts and for taking pictures!
P.S. Here is a news release on the event from TBF (The Bass Federation), http://www.highschoolfishing.org/news/state-championships/nebraska-names-high-school-state-champions/#more-940 .
