Free Deer Processing Seminars at Local Cabela’s Store

KEARNEY, Nebraska – High commodity prices means deer hunting isn’t just an enjoyable past time this year.  Lean venison is a delicious, healthy and thrifty centerpiece for the holiday dinners soon approaching.  Whether you want a roast for Thanksgiving or just some stew meat for a cold Nebraska snow day, deer meat is a great option.  On Saturday, November 5th Cabela’s of Kearney will be giving a live deer processing seminar.  Everything from skinning to great venison recipes will be covered.

Local taxidermist Jeremy Eckhardt will be giving the inside scoop on Preserving Your Trophy in the Field at 10:00am and will be demonstrating the best Skinning and Quartering Techniques at 11:00am.  At noon Kerry Trautman, owner of Trautman’s Quality Meats of Kearney, will be on hand to show you exactly how to cut great steaks and roasts so your entire deer doesn’t go straight to the grinder.  Finally local expert Carol Schwarz with UNL Extension will be in store to talk about Freezing and Canning Venison at 12:30pm, Slicing, Grinding, and Seasoning Great Jerky at 1:00pm and then giving a Live Venison Cooking Seminar.

For a complete list of seminars visit www.Cabelas.com/Kearney.  Cabela’s is located at 3600 E Hwy 30, Kearney, NE, 68847.
