Cover Boy
Several weeks ago I was approached by some of our NEBRASKAland magazine staff about writing a story on the Lake Ogallala trout fishery. If you have been reading my blog over the past year you know I have gushed about the trout fishing and Lake Ogallala and associated waters many times (e.g. http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2010/10/been-october-20-2010/ , http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2011/04/been-april-7-2011/ , http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2011/06/weekend-report-memorial-day-2011/ , http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2011/07/special/ , http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2011/10/pinch/ ) . So, it was easy for me to write about the Lake Ogallala trout fishery; the hard part was keeping my rambling within the word limit I was given.
Anywho, I got the article done on time and it is published in this month’s NEBRASKAland magazine, in fact, my story is featured online so you can read it here, http://www.outdoornebraska.ne.gov/nebland/articles/april2012/pdf/Trout%20Read%20Article%20Web.pdf . I was asked to write the story, and I expected it to be in NEBRASKAland. What I did not expect was my ugly mug on the front cover! Please ignore the photo on the cover and take time to read the article.
Pick up a copy of the April 2012 issue or better yet, get a subscription, http://www.outdoornebraska.ne.gov/nebland/subscriptions/nebland_subscribe.asp . Scatter those covers around the house and that should keep the mice away, may scare little children as well. If you look through the story, you will find a picture of my niece Holly, and that is a much more pleasant image, maybe enough to balance out my face on the cover.
I have had a number of my co-workers bring me their copies and ask for autographs. I still think they are just giving me a hard time, but I have been signing their magazines anyway. Whatever. Whenever my head starts to get a little too big for my fishing cap, I am reminded of a quote by one of our U.S. presidents who loved to fish: Herbert Hoover said that “All men are equal before fish”. That is true, very true.
