SNEAK PEEK OF WANAHOO ON THE WATER

April 26, 2012 In The Wild No Comments

The big, new Lake Wanahoo just north of Wahoo, NE – the state’s newest reservoir –  opens to fishing, no-wake boating and camping this Saturday morning, April 28th, at 8 o’clock.  Despite a cool weather forecast, the excitement for the opener of this 662-water acre reservoir is building!

Let me tell you that in early March, me and the crew here at the Game and Parks Omaha Office, spent a cold, Bering Sea-like, but fun day on the water there assisting our fisheries division in the collection and tagging of northern pike. This gave us a hands-on, direct ‘sneak peek’ of this fine reservoir via boat and of  Wanahoo’s fishery. We were highly impressed to say the least! This is indeed a reservoir that was built for fish! Here are some photos of the day to tease you a bit before the lake opens. Enjoy, RESPECT YOUR NATURAL AND RECREATIONAL RESOURCES, and I’m sure that sooner or later, we’ll see you at Wanahoo!

We had a blast working with the northern pike in the reservoir! Don’t forget, the pike are all catch-and-release!
