DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge near Blair, NE begins its fishing, boating, hiking and bird watching season on Saturday, April 14, 2012; this date is a one -year exception to the normally advertised annual opening date each year (April 15)…. Morel mushroom gathering on the refuge, including special seasonal designated areas, will be open April 16 – April 20 and April 23 – May 31. A map showing these areas is available at refuge entrances. On April 14 & 15 and April 21 – 22, the refuge will be closed to mushroom hunting during a special youth turkey hunt.
