Prescribed Burns Scheduled This Spring

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will conduct prescribed burns this spring when conditions are favorable. The primary goal of a burn is to reduce invasive species competing with native species. Burning also improves the diversity and quality of habitat available to a variety of wildlife.

Areas scheduled for burning, by region, are (wildlife management areas unless otherwise noted):

Northwest: Ponderosa and Cedar Canyon.

Northeast: Bohemia Prairie, Niobrara State Park (SP), Grove Lake, Red Wing and Redbird.

Southwest: Bassway Strip, Coot Shallows, Dogwood, Chester Island, Box Elder.

Southeast: Alexandria, Alexandria Southwest, Arrowhead, Diamond Lake, Dry Sandy, Flathead, Little Blue East, Little Blue, Meridian, Prairie Marsh, Redhead, Rock Creek Station, Rose Creek West, Rose Creek, Sandpiper, Verdon Lake State Recreation Area, Eugene T. Mahoney SP and Rock Glen.
