Meal time for two (chicks)
- 5 May 2012, 5:08 p.m. -
So, yes, everyone probably knows there are two chicks, now. Apparently the second bird hatched last night around 9:30 (thanks to those that left comments). I was able to catch the following clip late this afternoon of the male tending the chicks and then the female comes in with a meal. You can distinguish the female (A/Y) from the male (19/K) by her larger size. Interesting to see the female take control and the male slink away.
I am going to be out a whole lot over the next week, so please do not hesitate leaving comments if you see something newsworthy. -Joel

Apparently the falcons knew who was going to win the Kentucky Derby Saturday. The winner was “I’ll Have Another”. They now have another chick to feed! Gawd, that was a big meal! What did it looked like? A possum??
So very cool!!!
another way to tell the female & male apart, is she has what looks like long side burns, were his are a lot shorter. Sometimes they don,t face exactly right for the camera so that is how I tell them apart.
Good observation and I agree. Thanks for the comment. -Joel
Have you ever seen anything more adorable?! Correct me if I am wrong Joel, but I have come to find that the male has brighter yellow eyes than the female? That is how I tell the two apart… hope I am right!! Thank you so much for giving us this pleasure… I have family in California who are watching too!!
Now that I have watched this clip a few times, it really is very comical to watch the male as he observes the female bringing the food and it appears she is telling him there is not enough for everyone, he speaks back to her and leaves..
In this awesome clip~did the little guy on the left get some of the ‘Happy Meal’? Maybe I missed it. Hopefully he got his share {and a toy} later on! Did the offering look like a bird of some kind, maybe I saw the legs? Have fun watching today everyone! woo hoo!
I don’t know what kind of bird that was they were eating, but I work downtown and we find pigeon remains all over down there. I know they do like pigeons
THX Jeanne, for the info on the pigeon! Good to know! :} Nice to have your eyes to fill us all in!
I watch every day What a wonderfull learning opportunity as a learning tool for children it is providing. Keep those cameras rolling.
This is wonderful stuff for kids, teens, adults and oldsters. Everybody can enjoy watching nature in action.
Is the mealtime for 2 chicks video going to return? Enjoyed it so much!
It should be there, still. I noticed one time when I loaded the page it didn’t show up, you may have to refresh!
Thanks, Kim.
