Historic day for America: Peregrines receive names
Today, 28 June 2012, is a historic day of decision for America as we announce the winners of the “name-the-chicks” contest. As anyone that voted probably has already surmised, the two juvenile Peregrine Falcons will now be known as “Lewis” and “Clark”. It was a spirited election, with nearly 600 votes cast. After reviewing the entries, there were actually seven individuals that submitted “Lewis and Clark”. The following individuals, in the order in which the entry was submitted, can now strut around their respective towns proudly winners:
- Anne Sawyer of Boulder, Colorado
- Marvin Oltman of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Jack and Nancy Soukup of Davey, Nebraska
- David Vanek of Irwin, Pennsylvania
- Don Alvord of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Harper Wilmoth of Nebraska
- Tad Frazier of Lincoln, Nebraska
Thank you, winners, for your entry and for interest in our Peregrine Falcons. Each winner will receive a modest prize package.
With the “name-the-chicks” contest coming to a conclusion, it seems the entire 2012 Peregrine experience is coming to a close for this year. It has been fun and hearing everyone’s comments and questions has been great. The Nongame Bird Blog will probably keep going with posts from time to time, so check back. And if we don’t see you until next year, that will be here soon enough. Thanks again everyone!

For next year, I think you should make it clearer whether a person is limited to voting one time only or once a day. Also, hopefully the glitch where people on different computers on the same network are not allowed to vote if one person on the network has already voted gets fixed. Congrats to the winners!
