Castor and Pollux were also the main villans in the movie FACE / OFF starring Nicolas Cage (Castor Troy) and John Travolta.

  2. Dan says:

In Greek and Roman mythology, Castor and Pollux were twin brothers. Their mother was Leda, but they had different fathers. Castor was the mortal son of Tyndareus, king of Sparta, and Pollux, the divine son of Zeus, who visited Leda in the guise of a swan. When Castor was killed, Pollux asked Zeus to let him share his own immortality with his twin to keep them together, and they were transformed into the constellation Gemini. Pretty fitting names for two high-soaring falcon brothers.

Even though I liked the two native Nebraska Indian names, I find the Lewis and Clark names have a lot of appeal. The explorer names have a wider recognition than the indian names. And if you play the word association game and say “Lewis”, you will probably say “Clark”. Question: Will the fledgings get the full names (Meriwether Lewis and William Clark) if this pair of names win the contest??

    • Joel.Jorgensen says:

      Larry:

The entries were simply “Lewis and Clark”, no one submitted “Meriwether Lewis and William Clark”. We wil go with what has been submitted, if it wins.

  4. Bev says:

Castor and Pollux are the two bright stars in the Gemini constellation. They were also twin brothers in Greek mythology, Castor was mortal and Pollux was immortal. When Castor died, Pollux asked Zeus to give his brother some of his immortality so that they would be together forever so Zeus placed them in the heavens as the Gemini constellation.

  5. Robyn says:

Castor and Pollux are the name of the gemini brothers in greek mythology.

Today is the day after the voting deadline. And it’s clear as to what the winning names were. I’m fully in support of the winning names! When people in other areas of the country find out the birds’ new names, they will ask “why”? And we cam give them a bit of American History about the L & C Expendition that explored the new Lousiana Terrority Purchase. And how they came thru Nebraska by way of the Missouri River. Good Luck L & C!!

    • Larry says:

Sorry a typo got in. It should be the Louisiana Territory Purchase. The type size for the comments are really small. LJK.

  7. Sally says:

Wish I could get into vote! 2nd day I have been in here apparently the voting site is not working. :( Sally
