LINCOLN, Neb. – The Carp-O-Rama Family Fishing Event scheduled for July 14 at Lake Maloney State Recreation Area south of North Platte has been canceled because of a recent carp die-off.
Affected fish have been collected, and are being analyzed to determine the cause of death, which may take several weeks. It is unlikely that any disease that could have killed the carp would affect humans.
Another Family Fishing Event will take place in the North Platte area on Aug. 8 at Iron Horse Lake from 6 to 8 p.m. Join Nebraska Game and Parks Commission staff and volunteers to learn about fishing. Loaner fishing equipment, bait and advice are free, but all angling participants age 16 or older must have a valid fishing permit.
