Greetings from War Axe

July 11, 2012 Afield and Afloat No Comments

I just left the water of War Axe SRA after a search for smallmouth bass. While I had a couple of strikes I caught no fish. The lake is about four feet low. And while I didn’t catch fish there are still fish to be caught.

Take a young one here and, with a one-sixteenth or one-eighth ounce jig, chase the multitude of bluegill running the shallows. Watching them alone will draw smiles from kids.

While my morning was slow, yesterday afternoon was not. Madeline and I dropped the Johnny B into Papio D-4 in north Omaha and caught some very nice largemouth. We also got several laughs from bullfrogs chasing our scum frog poppers, which was the only lure I fished with yesterday. But it was also the only lure we needed.
