Natural Legacy Project Receives Funds to Stride Toward Sustainability

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska’s Natural Legacy Project has been awarded $800,000 from the Competitive State Wildlife Grant Program Fiscal Year 2012 for the grant “Striding toward Sustainability.”

This grant will implement conservation actions primarily on private lands to enhance native prairies, woodlands and wetlands for the benefit of at-risk species, while keeping common wildlife species common. Habitat projects will be delivered collaboratively with partners using voluntary, incentive-based strategies.

“The Natural Legacy Project success is due to the support of partners that come together to deliver habitat projects,” said Kristal Stoner, wildlife diversity program manager for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. “The Natural Legacy Partnership Team deserves credit for this grant award since it worked to collaboratively identify good projects and partners that should be a part of the grant proposal.”

The Natural Legacy Partnership has representatives from 24 agencies and organizations that represent agriculture and conservation interests.

More than $5.7 million in funding was available nationwide. Nebraska was one of seven states to receive funding.
