Hunters Must Know Blaze Orange Requirements

October 12, 2012 News No Comments

LINCOLN, Neb. – Got orange? If not, now is a good time to obtain blaze orange for fall hunting.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission requires hunters to wear at least 400 square inches of blaze orange on their head, chest and back when:

— Hunting turkeys during the November firearm deer season (Nov. 10-18).

— Hunting deer, antelope, elk or bighorn sheep with a firearm permit during a firearm season.

— Hunting deer with archery equipment during the November firearm and Dec. 26-Jan 18 deer seasons.

“Humans can recognize blaze orange and will relate it to the presence of a human because it is a color not found in nature,” said Mike Streeter, the Nebraska hunter education coordinator. “The color is such that it is extremely visible to humans under most lighting conditions.”
