A Note and some Spooks
You can read a summary of the fishing regulation changes that were passed by our board of commissioners last week here, http://www.facebook.com/notes/nebraska-game-and-parks-commission/fishing-regulations-approved-for-2013-2014/10151238828317298 . There are some “tweaks” and changes there, in my opinion no huge changes, but look them over.
Some of you will recall that we took public comment on fishing regulation proposals this past summer and I want to say “THANK YOU” to everyone that provided comment to me. I received over 100 e-mails, letters and messages, and I can tell you that several of our original proposals were modified based on the comments we received. Setting fishing regulations is a blend of science, sociology and yes, politics, and we will never have regulations that will keep everyone happy. But, I hope you know that our angler’s opinions are very important, the fisheries resources we are managing belong to you, our anglers, and feedback from our anglers is an important part of the process.
Once the commission meeting adjourned last week, we have been busy getting the 2013-2014 Fishing Guide ready for publication. We are still doing some edits and reviews; we will try to have that ready by the new year. Believe me, we are working on it!
Happy Halloween!
Today is Halloween, gotta share some “spooky” fish pictures with you.
First of all, my trout-bum nephew in Montana sent me this picture a year ago–I have been waiting until Halloween to use it! Notice the spey rod, he is darned proud of it!
My best “spooky” fish picture comes from a few years ago. My daughter caught a big channel cat and before we released it we wanted a few pictures, of course (by the way, she caught it on a hot dog). Her big brother was helping her hold it, and just as I snapped one photo the fish clamped down on Daniel’s hand. If you have never had your hand in the mouth of a big catfish before, believe me, when they clamp down they have incredible power in those jaws! I caught the grimace on the kid’s faces and I thought the red eyes were appropriate, so I just left them.
Lastly, Red Green made an appearance here today. Looks like he needs to drink some more coffee to wake up!
“Quando omni flunkus, moritati”

The last of the 3 pictures is the spookiest of all, eh?
He’s a man but he can change if he has to, he guesses.
