RE-LIVE HISTORY THIS WEEKEND AT FORT ATKINSON, WHO’S THAT SOLDIER?

October 5, 2012 In The Wild No Comments

I am reminding you that we in Game and Parks have a fun thing for you and your family to do this first weekend in October. We’re talking about grabbing your warm jackets and experiencing living history at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park in Fort Calhoun.

Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 5 each day, more than 50 living history volunteer reenactors will be showing you what life was like in the first military fort west of the Missouri River in the 1820s. Soldiers in period uniforms can be seen. Periodic cannon firing will take place. Blacksmiths and coopers will be plying their trades along with a host of other artisans. This a must-see event! Don’t forget your park permit and a few dollars to get into the visitor center there. You never know, folks, I may be among the living history volunteer reenactors ….
