Why Hunt, Fish and Trap?

November 9, 2012 Barbs and Backlashes 5 Comments

It is the eve of Nebraska’s 2012 rifle deer season.  In spite of some unknowns due to this year’s drought and severe EHD outbreak,  http://www.outdoornebraska.ne.gov/hunting/EHD.asp , I know that there are a lot of men and women who are excited and anticipating their annual deer hunt.  Thinking of that, I remembered a video clip I wanted to share:

I do not know how far off snowfall like that will be in Nebraska, could be any day now, maybe even some this weekend in some parts of the state.

I suppose some of you are going to look at that clip and immediately be “turned-off” by the fact that it is Ted Nugent.  I am fully aware of Ted’s history, reputation, troubles, and controversy.  I will tell you that I do not agree with everything he says or does, might not even agree completely with everything he says in that video.  But, I do appreciate his passion and that it is proudly on display in that video.  That is the same passion that many of us have, the same passion that will fuel deer-hunting traditions around our great state again this weekend!  Passion for what you believe in, and passion for what you do, counts a lot in my book.  In spite of the controversial and crazy character that Ted Nugent can be, I am thankful for someone who is passionate about our hunting, fishing, and trapping traditions and heritage and is willing to share that, and stand up for it, unashamedly.  Rock on, Uncle Ted!

Never apologize for recognizing and exercising your place in nature, your part in the natural cycle, your role as a predator.  Relish your participation, be passionate and respectful about it, share it with others.  I hope you can do that in your “deer camp” this weekend, and I hope that you kill the buck of your dreams!

I fully support the legal hunting and fishing of game in Nebraska, but do not approve of the use of Ted Nugent as a spokesman. He violates hunting and fishing laws on a regular basis and generally casts a very negative shadow over those who hunt and fish legally in their states.

      David,

I said in my post that I am fully aware of the negative opinion some have of Ted Nugent. I fully understand that. I also said in my post that I knew some would dismiss it immediately simply because it was Ted Nugent. I also can fully understand that–every reader can “take it or leave it” every one of my blog posts.

I did NOT post that video as an endorsement of Ted Nugent. I did post it because in that one video clip, “Uncle Ted” passionately makes a lot of good points. I am sure many Nebraska hunters hitting the field for our rifle deer opener tomorrow share that passion and know exactly how Ted feels when he is in the field hunting.

Don’t pay attention to any negative posts. Most are only going to believe what they saw on CNN or heard from some other detractor and never even bother looking for themselves. I know he is extreme about many things, but fortunately he has extreme passion for hunting and has a national platform to promote passion. These detractors haven’t done even a fourth of what he has for the sport. If you don’t like him then don’t listen. I probably don’t want to hear your opinion either.

That being said I rather liked that clip. Interesting perspective and makes me hate snow a little less, which is not easy to do. Thanks for posting it in your article.

Best post yet Daryl! Yes, yes, we all know ol’ Teddy is controversial. And I’m still mad at him for not fighting what he called in his own word, “an unjust charge,” beingst as he, unlike most of us, has the money to fight it. Anyways, simple, poignant, and the message was spot on and appreciated. The passion has not waned, just the conditions. Good Post!
