A Very Successful Start

After about an hour blood trail, my dad, Matt Marx, and I found Matt’s first archery deer. Congrats to Matt and his first bow buck. Send me your opening day photos at Jeff.kurrus@nebraska.gov and I’ll post them here.

8:00 AM Archery Report

12 dove, 8 turkeys, 4 squirrels, 2 raccoons, and 1 pass through for my hunting partner. Hunting near Tekamah today and it couldn’t be a more perfect morning. More soon after he tracks down his deer. JK

One More Day

Tomorrow is Christmas for me, and I can barely think about it. If I do, I won’t sleep at all tonight. I’m tempted to even nap this afternoon because of it, but then I know for sure tonight would turn into tomorrow after several hours of staring at the ceiling. …

Photo of the Week – The Prairie Ecologist

This incredible predator lives a life straight out of a horror novel.  I’m really glad it’s only a half inch long because it (and lots of its friends) live in my backyard… Read more here:   http://prairieecologist.com/2012/09/13/photo-of-the-week-september-13-2012/

Why not stop it because it’s just plain WRONG. It’s an environmentally insensitive act witnessed by thousands, …

Dinosaurs in the Forest

I had the opportunity yesterday to visit Fontenelle Forest’s dinosaur exhibit. Very cool to see dinosaurs to scale in the woods. All displays are accessible by a wooden foot path. Visit Fontenelle’s web site for more information.

Omaha’s Purple Martin Roost

Last night, I had the opportunity to view a purple martin roost in Omaha south of Farnum Street on 44th. Very neat. It reminds me of two of the best roosts I’ve ever seen, woodducks in a cypress tree swamp near Yazoo, Mississippi and every single sunset I see during …
