There have been some recent news releases on Aquatic Habitat Projects/Angler Access projects that are underway or have been completed.  Let me return to those releases and add a few photos. Aquatic Habitat Projects Begin at Arnold and Victoria Springs Lakes May 11, 2012 LINCOLN, Neb. – Water levels in …

Kid’s System

I am always telling fishing folks to find someone new, find a kid, take ‘em fishing, and get ‘em hooked!  The time spent together in the outdoors is reward enough, but let’s face it, it is even more fun and memorable if fish are caught.  The best strategy for getting …

“Land Ho!”

Heading out the door for the Memorial Day weekend.  Just a “light” blog post before I leave, a little corny, fishing humor for ya. Always use the right line! “I’m liking it!” By the way, I have a whole series of pirate jokes I should share with you sometime! Sorry, …

Stinkin’ Poachers *!2#$*r@&;6^!!!!!!

I cannot tell you all the details, but I want to mention a recent poaching case that was made at Lake McConaughy.  I am not going to mention any of the names involved, but one of our conservation officers worked some long hours, many of them after dark, to catch …

It has been awhile since I put up a hard-core fishing blog post.  Fish heads, pull up a chair, read closely. I will always tell you that every bait or lure ever made will catch fish when used in the right place at the right time.  But, there are no …

2012 Pallid Sturgeon Broodstock Collections

We had a bunch of folks on the Missouri River again this spring collecting pallid sturgeon brood stock.  Here is a report on those efforts. As you can see that is an extensive effort every year.  Our Nebraska Missouri River research crews have perfected the trot-line technique for capturing …

Mother’s Day 2012

I have made some blog posts for Mother’s Day in past years and likely anything I say now will repeat something I have already said.  I do not necessarily want to do that, but I do want to repeat the theme of spending time in the outdoors with your family! …

Learn to Fly Fish

If you have been reading my blog for some time you know that I am not a fly-fishing purist.  I love to fish for a variety of species of fish and my philosophy is to use whatever gear, whatever tool, is the right one for the job.  I spend a …
