30-point Buck

Tomorrow is the opening of Nebraska’s 2011 rifle deer season.  In honor of that event . . . I in no way condone the bad, dangerous, or unethical behavior mentioned in the song.  But, it is kind of funny and well, it is Friday, lighten up. Have a great weekend, …

Fall Fishing

October was a busy month.  I had a lot of places to go and things that needed to get done, but do not cry for me, I spent a lot of time on the water in October too!  Fall is my favorite open-water fishing of the year.  I am not …

Water Wars

I know nobody will listen or take this seriously, especially after all of the flooding we have experienced this year.  It happens every time we come out of a drought cycle and enter a wet cycle. . . but, I will continue to “preach” that water is going to be …

Fishing Animals

My boss was talking this week about his dog and how much that dog likes to fish.  I have ice-fished with the two of them before and can tell you that if his dog hear’s a fish splashing in your ice hole she will come a-running and then will have …

Another Exceptional Fish

I have teased some that I had news of another unusual state record fish, so I better come clean and tell the story. Three weeks ago I blogged about a couple of new state record fish that had been caught from the Missouri River in northeast Nebraska,  http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2011/10/stop-presses-big-huge-fish/.  One of …

I still have a ton of things to blog about, let me just throw out a few odds and ends here today and finish with a Halloween twist. Regional Champs First of all, a week ago I told you about Adam Diehl and Drew Bailey from Lincoln County who went …

Wow, look at that!

In case you have not figured it out by now, I am very serious about my fishing–I fish hard, I am out there to catch fish, big fish.  One of the side benefits of all the time spent on the water or in the field is getting to see and …

Regional Champs!

Do you remember these guys? Those two young anglers are Adam Diehl and Drew Bailey, winners of the State High School Bass Fishing Championship sponsored by The Bass Federation (TBF), http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2011/09/nebraska-high-school-state-fishing-championship-results/ .  By winning the state championship, Adam and Drew qualified to fish the regional tournament which was held on …

More State Record News, A Near Miss

I will confess to you that I have a number of state records from this summer to tell you about.  Most of those fish were taken by underwater spearfishing or bowfishing and the applications have been on my desk waiting for me to approve them and for a batch of …

More on the state record paddlefish

I have promised some of you that there is more story to what will be our new state record paddlefish, http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2011/10/stop-presses-big-huge-fish/ (I have all the paperwork on that fish already, everything is in order, just have not mailed out the state record certificate yet).  Here’s “the rest of the story”. …
