Happy 50th Anniversary!

By the time you are reading this I will have been out of the office for a few days already.  One of the things I will be doing is traveling back “out west” for a few days with family to celebrate my Mom and Dad’s 50th wedding anniversary. Actually they …

New Drop Shot Rigging

I fish for a lot of different species; that includes black bass, but I would not call myself a hard-core bass angler.  I am even less of a fan of Mike Iaconelli, but I recently saw this video clip and if you fish bass, if you fish drop-shot rigs, you …

State Record Muskie?

A number of years ago we shifted all of our muskie stocking in Nebraska to pure-bred muskellunge.  We used to stock tiger muskies which are actually northern pike X muskellunge hybrids, but we shifted to pure-bred muskies for all of our muskie stockings.  Those fish are obtained as very small …

Ichthyourology

I recently received great news!  Garrison Keillor and the Prairie Home Companion, http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/ , have solved the Asian carp crisis.  Click on this link to see! Ichthyourologist Why didn’t I think of that?

24-hour Fish-A-Thon

My last blog post told you about some Nebraska anglers who are “Gettin-R-Done”; this one is going to tell you about some more! There is an organization that I am a huge fan of; it is called “Recycled Fish”.  Obviously, with that title they are big proponents of catch & …

An Apology

You will probably recall my post from a couple weeks ago where I was very upset about some vandalism that had occurred at one of our waters enrolled in our open fields and waters program, http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2011/07/people-bigger-pigs-pigs-themselves/ .  I was so upset that I even said that people were bigger pigs …

Ft. Robinson Trout Slam

Once again this summer we spent a long weekend with my wife’s side of the family; spent it at Ft. Robinson again this year.  I just mentioned Ft. Robinson; I would highly recommend that State Park as a vacation/family reunion spot.  It has been one of our favorites through the …

Something Special

I have been promoting the outstanding rainbow trout fishing at Lake Ogallala and associated waters since last fall, http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2010/10/been-october-20-2010/ , http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2010/12/been-december-1-2010/ , http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2011/04/been-april-7-2011/ , http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2011/06/weekend-report-memorial-day-2011/ .  If you look back through the pictures in those posts, you will see the size of the rainbow trout steadily growing.  My biggest fish …

Zebra Mussel Update

Zebra mussels are a hot topic in Nebraska and around the country this year, so I want to be sure to mention something about them frequently.  Let me throw out a few items here. You may see some crews doing boat inspections and even decontaminations on selected waters around the …

Miss Piggy loves Kermit

I am old enough to remember when the Muppet Show was on TV every week.  Now that was good TV, I do not care what you say!  They just don’t make ‘em like that anymore; good thing I have the DVD’s (seriously, I ain’t kidding). Anyway, everybody knows that Miss …
