State Fishing Treasures

If I have not said it before, or if you have not figured it out yet, I am a huge fan of In-Fisherman, http://www.in-fisherman.com/ .  I devour all of their materials, magazines, books, videos, TV shows, website, etc., etc.  Last February, Doug Stange, Editor-in-Chief of In-Fisherman had an “Inside Angles” …

Some observations, July 13, 2010

We are in the middle of summer, it has been hot, humid here in eastern Nebraska, and the fishing can get tough.  Of course we go through this every year; if you want here is a blog post from last year that you can refer to, http://barbsandbacklashes.wordpress.com/2009/07/16/dog-days-of-summer/ .  Let me …

What do you think?

OK, here is your chance, I am asking for your opinion. Every year the Fisheries Division of the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission reviews fishing rules and regulations.  At least a few changes in fishing regulations occur every year as fisheries change, angler attitudes and expectations change and fisheries management …

Bluegreen Algae

It is summer, the water is warming up and bluegreen algae blooms every year at this time, has been doing it for hundreds if not thousands of years.  Then folks start hearing some things about “health alerts” and there are A LOT of misconceptions out there.  So, I might as …

Crayfish

Happy Independence Day!

Heading out of the office for the long 4th of July weekend!  I have to tell you that “the 4th” has always been my favorite holiday.  It is another time we have always spent with family, and often we have mixed some fishing in with it. We have water fights, …

Summer Tournaments

Let me share some thoughts on competitive fishing events or tournaments in this blog post.  I have not participated in many fishing tournaments.  I have observed quite a few, but have only participated in a couple.  I have had some success in the tournaments I have fished, but that was a …

Yoda

I work with a great bunch of people here in the main Fisheries office at our Game & Parks headquarters in Lincoln.  Without exception we love what we do because we have a passion for what we do; we genuinely care about Nebraska’s fisheries resources, it is our life, it …

Some observations, June 28, 2010

I do not have a lot to report, but a few thoughts floating around in my head–time for a quick blog post. I know this will entirely ruin what little reputation I had, but I did not spend much time on the water last week.  Between the high and dirty …

Odds and Ends, June 24, 2010

I have found a few things on the internet that I thought would be of interest;  let me share them with you. Muskies No this does not deal with Nebraska waters, but it has to do with a neat fish that can be found in some Nebraska waters.  I have …
