Cheating Time

I get to this point every spring and wish I could just stop time for a little bit.  Over the past couple of weeks I have blogged about spring turkey hunting, morel mushroom picking and some spring fishing opportunities.  This is one of those times of the year when there …

Happy Mother's Day!

I have been doing this blog thing for a little over a year now.  Can I use the excuse that I was a rookie who did not know what he was doing and forgot about Mother’s Day last year?  Nope, did not think I could.  Well, I am not going …

Turkey Musings

We are still in the middle of Nebraska’s spring turkey season.  If you have not yet, there is still plenty of time to buy a permit and find a big ole Tom!  I have killed a lot of birds well into May, and have always figured that as the hens …

High and Muddy

Last weekend I ventured out to a couple of our reservoirs south of Lincoln and discovered that they caught a darned lot more rain down there late last week than we did in north Lincoln.  Water levels were high and the water was muddy.  Conditions are always changing, the only …

My biggest pike

The May 2010 issue of NEBRASKAland, http://www.ngpc.state.ne.us/nebland/nebland.asp , has an excellent story written by my buddy Jeff Kurrus, Tales of an Esox, The Unnatural History of the Northern Pike. That story reflects on some of the legend and lore of northern pike including stories about Nebraska pike and Nebraska pike …

Water

It has been said by folks far more intelligent and more important than me that water will be THE ISSUE this century, especially for American western states.  That certainly includes Nebraska!  The water wars are just beginning and every Nebraska citizen, every Nebraska tax payer should become educated on the …
