Fall into Fun at Nebraska State Parks

Whether you like to learn, relax, make family memories or meet new friends, Nebraska's state parks are the place to be for fun this fall. Here's a look at some upcoming events; details can be found on our event calendar.


 

October

ALEXANDRIA SRA
Oct. 18-19 at 6 p.m.

Go trick-or-treating at the campground decorated for Halloween. Call 402-729-5777 for more information.

ARBOR LODGE SHP Oct. 26 from 6-8 p.m.
Enjoy Halloween's Enchanted Garden, an annual event by the Friends of Arbor Lodge Foundation. Children in Halloween costumes will be treated with an enchanted walk through the historic gardens to visit some animal friends. There will be cookies, cider, games, photos and a hayrack ride at the Carriage House following the walk. The cost is $3 for children of foundation members and $5 for children of nonmembers. The rain date is Oct. 27 from 5-7 p.m. Call 402-873-7222 for more information.

LIVING HISTORY WEEKEND
FORT ATKINSON SHP
Oct. 4 ,10:00 am - 5:00 pm - $2 per adult and $1 for children

Experience life in an 1820's military fort as depicted by interpretation actors. Each weekend depicts a different theme so check the schedule for what interests you most! Interpretation hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For further information, contact the park office. 402-468-5611

AUTUMN HARVEST ART SHOW
MAHONEY SP

Oct. 4-5 @ 9:00 am – 8:00 pm

Looking for original artwork that may not be found anywhere else? Then visit the Peter Kiewit Lodge at Mahoney State Park for the Autumn Harvest Art Show hosted by Prairie Images. There are artists offering something that will please every interest: wildlife, southwestern, wood sculptures, pottery and more. Saturday hours are 9am-8pm; Sunday will be 9am-4pm. 402-944-2523

HALLOWFEST
PONCA SP

Oct. 11 and 18 - $5.00 for kids (12 and under) and $7.00

The park's 15th annual Halloween and autumn event that features haunted evening hayrack rides, pumpkin rolling and carving contest, campsite decorating contest, and much more. Haunted hayrack ride reservations begin Oct. 7th by calling or visiting the park office. The Campground judging will be taking place after sunset.  There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes at both campgrounds (Turkeyridge and Oak Bluff).  There will also be one prizes for the best decorated cabin. 402-775-2284.

HAUNTED HOLLOW HAYRACK RIDES
INDIAN CAVE SP

Oct. 10-11, 17-18, 24-25 - $7.00 adults and $5.00 children
Want to be "spooked" out for fall? Then bring the family to the park for a Haunted Hollow hayrack ride. Cost is $7 per adult and $5 for children (age 4-12), age 3 & under are free. Concessions are available on grounds. Tickets go on sale beginning Oct. 3 by phone or walk-in. 402-883-2575

COSTUME CONTEST
INDIAN CAVE SP

Oct. 10, 11,18 & 25

Indian Cave will be hosting a Halloween costume contest Oct. 11th, 18th and 25th. Visit the park's haunted town of St. Deroin on Oct. 10 from 7-9 p.m. for Trick or Treat at the Town. The cost is $1. Come to the Museum at 4:00pm for the costume contest! Age divisions: up to 3 years, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-adult. 402-883-2575

HOWL IN THE HILLS NIGHT HIKE WILDCAT HILLS NATURE CENTER
Oct. 11, 7:00 pm

Experience the Wildcat Hills like never before, at night. Discover all the creatures that go bump in the night during our hike. It is sure to be a "howling" good time. Please bring along a flashlight, hiking shoes and a sense of adventure. Please pre-register by Oct. 3 for this event. 308-436-3777

HALLOWEEN ARCHERY SHOOT
NEBRASKA GAME AND PARKS OUTDOOR EDUCATION CENTER

Oct. 24 - 4-7:30 p.m. $3.00 an hour in costume
Featuring a decorated archery range, come and shoot archery for $3/hour in costume! Candy and prizes will be available, as well as a Halloween-themed meal served by the UNL Archery Club ($5). Registration is required.

BUFFALO BILL RANCH SHP
Oct. 23-25, 7-10 p.m.

Visit the haunted barn at the former home of William "Buffalo Bill" Cody. Call 308-535-8035 for more information.

CALAMUS SRA
Oct. 18 at noon

Carve pumpkins at the Homestead Knolls campground of this park area on Oct. 18 at noon, then take them home to display. Pumpkins, as well assistance carving, will be available. Children will be treated to s'mores. Call 308-346-5666 for more information.

MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY
PLATTE RIVER SP

Nov. 9
The first 100 people with a military identification will receive a token for a free shooting activity, excluding trap. Chili will be served. Call 402-234-2217 for more information.

INTRODUCTION TO ARCHERY
PLATTE RIVER SP
Nov. 29-30 - 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Platte River SP is hosting a free "Introduction to Archery" event. All other activities at the range will be open during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.


CANDLELIGHT TOUR - FORT ATKINSON SHP

Nov. 8

20TH ANNUAL HISTORICAL CHRISTMAS DINNER - FORT ROBINSON
Nov. 3 *** Ticket pre-sale begins ***

The Fort Robinson Annual Historical Christmas Dinner tickets go on sale beginning at 8 am MT time. Do not wait. These tickets sell fast. Call Fort Robinson State Park for your tickets beginning at 8 am MT. This year's Historical Christmas Dinner is being held on December 6. No tickets will be sold at the door. Email the park

CORNUCOPIA OF CRAFTS

Nov. 1-2
Join us at the Kiewit Lodge for a pre-holiday craft show. There will be vendors with jewelry, jerky, pottery, taxidermy and more. A campfire cookout will be held on Saturday – November 1st from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Musical instruments are welcome! Event will be held in the Peter Kiewit Lodge. 402-944-2523
