Bighorn Sheep Distribution

Bighorn sheep are native to Nebraska and historically occurred primarily in the rugged escarpments of the Pine Ridge of the northern Panhandle and in the Wildcat Hills of the southern Panhandle. Since reintroduction efforts begain in 1981, 137 sheep have been moved to Nebraska from Montana, South Dakota and Colorado. More than 200 wild bighorns now live in the Wildcat Hills and Pine Ridge.
