Description:
Squirrel hunters in Nebraska will likely find two species:

Eastern Fox Squirrel
The largest tree squirrel. Three color phases: in northeastern part of range, gray above, yellowish below; in western part, bright rust below; in South, black, often with white blaze on face and white tail tip. Large, bushy tail with yellow-tipped hairs.

Eastern Gray Squirrel
Gray above, with buff underfur showing especially on head, shoulders, back, and feet; underparts paler gray. Flattened tail bushy, gray with silvery-tipped hairs. Black phase common in northern parts of range.
