Description:
American Woodcock is such a singular shorebird that it has inspired a wealth of colloquial names, including timberdoodle, bog-sucker and night-partridge. It nests in wet mixed and deciduous woodlands near open meadows and streams. In early spring, males rise at dusk to perform aerial display flights.
