The Lodge Restaurant will serve a full traditional Thanksgiving dinner buffet on Thanksgiving Day. Call the park office at (402) 944-2523 for reservations and menu.

November 28, December 5 and 19
Ponca State Park           
Celebrate the new season with educational activities including gold-fashion holiday crafts, lighted hayrack ride, free cookies and Wassail, sledding hill, groomed cross-country ski trails (snow permitting), and ice skating. A discounted lodging package is offered.

Platte River State Park
Kick-off the Platte Valley Parklands Winterfest Season at the Archery on Fire Event at the Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Education Complex for Archery, 3-Day Archery, Crossbows, Tomahawk Throwing, Half price youth lifetime permit drawing Campground Games, Kid Friendly Crafts. Warm yourself by the campfire and cook a s’more.

Classic Christmas
December 12 at 1:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Mahoney State Park
Santa will be available to hear your Christmas wishes at the Peter Kiewit Lodge! A NEBRASKAland photographer will be taking family photos with Santa from 1:30-4:30 pm. Crafts will be available; decorate holiday cookies and ornaments for the season. There will also be a lighted hay rack ride through the park.

Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center
Bring the family to learn more about archery. Equipment is provided and knowledgeable staff will be there to help. Fun activities include: archery, 3-D Archery, Crossbows, Tomahawk throwing, indoor firearm range, Half price youth lifetime permit drawing, kids crafts, and a campfire to gather around to cook s’mores and drink hot chocolate!

Annual Christmas Bird Count
December 14
Indian Cave State Park
The annual Christmas Bird Count coincides with the Audubon Society National Christmas Bird Count. Bird watchers of all ages are invited to assist with our count while comparing notes and sighting reports with each other. A chili feed will be provided to all participants.

Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park
Join us at Buffalo Bill Ranch for Christmas at the Cody’s! Join Buffalo Bill, his wife, Louisa, and Santa for free hay rack rides around the park. Enjoy the warmth of the season with cider, cookies and roasted chestnuts too! The historical home of Buffalo Bill Cody will be decorated with lights along with most of the park.

First Day Hike - Ponca State Park
Jan. 1

Join us on the 1st Day Hike! There will be guided and unguided hikes on Ponca’s 22 miles of trails. Check in at the Resource and Education Center for information on the condition of the trails along with a description and listing of the level of difficulty. At 2 p.m. Ponca State Park will be kicking off the Hiking Marathon with a guided 1.4 mile hike on the Corp of Discover Trail.

Yule Log Quest
January 2 at 3 PM
Platte River State Park
This exciting event for family and friends gets teams together to use a series of clues to find the location of the yule log. The day will also consist of other events, including a kindling hunt for kids, crafts, story time and s’mores by the fire. An evening hayrack ride caps off the day.

Help Prevent Emerald Ash Borers in Nebraska

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a serious pest that is near Nebraska’s border.  Your cooperation is needed to help prevent EAB from invading Nebraska woodlands and landscapes.
If you have brought firewood from another state, please burn it immediately and DO NOT transport it to another location. In addition to the Voluntary Firewood Restriction a Voluntary Firewood Exchange is in affect at Niobrara SP, Ponca SP, E.T. Mahoney SP, Indian Cave SP and Pawnee SRA, Lewis and Clark SRA, Two Rivers SRA and Branched Oak SRA.
